Guides

Leave it as you’d want to find it.

Notice, cleaning, keys, and the deposit timeline — the unglamorous parts done cleanly.

  1. 01

Give written notice. Month-to-month tenancies in California generally need at least 30 days.

  2. 02

Confirm your move-out date and any required walkthrough with the office.

  3. 03

Remove all belongings. Storage left behind can delay the deposit.

  4. 04

Clean thoroughly — kitchen, baths, floors, appliances, windows you can reach.

  5. 05

Return the unit to a similar condition as move-in, allowing for ordinary wear.

  6. 06

Forward your mail and close or transfer utilities.

  7. 07

Return every key, fob, and remote on the agreed date.

  8. 08

Leave a forwarding address. California generally requires the deposit accounting within 21 days.

Ordinary wear — small scuffs, a few nail holes — is not a deduction. Damage beyond that may be.
